Happy New Year?

Well the year is off to a disappointing start.  Our workshop was broken into twice over the Christmas period.  The first time all our race and training trikes were stolen and the second time, a week later, all our tools.  Thanks to some excellent media coverage and a concerted effort from the entire Ballarat Community, the trikes were quickly recovered but sadly in a damaged and “stripped” condition.

Ballarat Police have laid charges against a local 15 year old. The trikes had been destroyed but there had been obvious (but unskilled) attempts to repair them and they had many new stickers on them.  I was very proud when, after spending 5 minutes being happy about at least getting the skeletons of our trikes back, the team came up with the idea of inviting the thieves to join our team so that we could teach them the skills to make their own trikes and hopefully help them find more productive outlets for their energies.  The invitation was issued through the arresting Detective, we await a reply.

In the meantime, plans have been made for a number of summer workshops , using borrowed tools, to get our program back on track and ready for our next event at Wonthaggi in March.  The team has taken this as an ADIMOV (Adapt Improvise Overcome) opportunity.
