Monday November 23
Following some teary farewells from parents, the team departed at 10am from Damascus Victoria St Campus, and we were checked in and ready to depart from Tullamarine airport at about 12:00pm. Our organisation was not rewarded, however; our plane was delayed, giving us the opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of Melbourne airport for some two and a half hours. Eventually we were up in the air, bumping around due to some severe turbulence. This made for an interesting first flying experience for a number of team members, but we arrived safe and sound at 5:30 Darwin time (7:00pm Victoria time) at Darwin airport.
After bussing to the wonderful Howard Springs Big 4 Caravan Park, we were immediately hit by the heat and humidity. We set up our tents in the semi-darkness, then went for the first of many cool-off swims before enjoying a pizza dinner and heading to bed for an early night.
